The Institute connects and supports faculty, students, landowners, and communities through conservation and stewardship partnerships across the Trans-Pecos. These collaborations strengthen applied research, inform land and water management, and advance locally driven solutions to shared water challenges.

San Solomon Springs Collaborative
The San Solomon Springs Collaborative brings together researchers, landowners, community members, nonprofits, and groundwater conservation districts in a focused, locally driven effort to sustain the springs that feed Balmorhea and support the surrounding desert ecosystem.

Pecos River Partners
Pecos River Partners is a collaboration of Pecos River watershed landowner groups, nonprofit organizations, agencies, and academic institutions working together to support research, stewardship, and conservation along the river. Partners include the Lower Pecos Landowners Group, Friends of the Pecos River, The Nature Conservancy, Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University, Texas Agricultural Land Trust, Rio Grande Joint Venture, Southwest Research Institute, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Water Trade, Dixon Water Foundation, the University of Texas Bureau of Economic Geology, Devils River Conservancy, and Sul Ross State University.

Alamito Creek Conservation Initiative
The Alamito Creek Conservation Initiative works with landowners to implement restoration and enhancement projects within the Alamito Creek watershed in Presidio County. The initiative is supported by the Dixon Water Foundation and The Horizon Foundation, with existing cost-share programs that help carry out voluntary, incentive-based conservation projects.
